Job Summary:
The WebSphere Administrator is responsible for the administration and support of multiple installations and instances of IBM WebSphere versions 5.x and 6.x running on UNIX and Linux platforms. The administrator is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the WebSphere application servers, monitor the environment for availability, respond to issues, deploy and maintain application code in multiple environments and provide support to various groups within the organization.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain performance, availability and perform code deployments for multiple WebSphere environments
- Implement or consult in the deployment of monitoring tools or custom monitoring solutions associated with the WebSphere clusters and instances.
- Manage the complex eBusiness architecture consisting of highly available, load balanced and clustered WebSphere servers to strive for a 24x7 uptime in the production environments.
- Analyze the performance and reliability of applications deployed in the WebSphere server environments.
- Implement, enforce and adhere to application security policies.
- Participate in projects by providing subject matter expertise and applying industry best practices as it pertains to the WebSphere environments.
- Formulate and document the backup and recovery plan, test the plan periodically, and participate in any needed recovery effort.
- Respond to production issues and provide detailed root cause analysis documentation.
- Apply patches/upgrades to WebSphere software installations.
- Monitor, communicate and respond to capacity demands for the WebSphere environments.
Capacity, Performance & Availability Analysis: Ensure WebSphere servers are operating at their most efficient levels and are available to customers during mission critical timeframes. Provide and maintain baselines of capacity and performance statistics alerting the appropriate parties when there are variations. Assist in capacity trends that will assist with future planning.
Strategy and Planning: Work together with the Director of Data Services and systems architects to establish and manage the WebSphere environments to meet service levels for TSYS Acquiring and its internal and external clients.
Reporting and Documentation: Maintain and produce reports that focus on capacity, uptime, incidents, performance and overall health status of all WebSphere systems.
IT Business Processes: Assist in developing the appropriate business processes for the middleware administration teams and ensure a comprehensive understanding of Company business processes as they relate to IT.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Relevant Bachelor’s degree (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration) or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience required
Technical Experience - Three to five years of experience administrating production WebSphere environments running on versions 5.x and 6.x in a UNIX/Linux environment. The individual should have extensive experience with middleware architecture, evaluation, installation, configuration, code deployment and maintenance of WebSphere application server.
- A good working knowledge of networking concepts, UNIX/Linux and a solid understanding of applications server coding concepts.
